Definitely this hasn’t been a good year for the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons 3-10 felt completely abandoned, in a season where much has already gone wrong.
Bad circumstances has round this NFL teams in this 2007 NFL season, first the loss of one of their Quarterback Michael Vick who was sentenced to a 23 months in jail and now they just lost their head coach Bobby Petrino.
All the Falcon’s players catalogued Petirno’s action as hypocrite and I do agree with them. How can Petrino decided to leave the team at this point in the season? He definitely doesn’t have love for his job but only for the money he can make out of it.
The owner of the Atlanta Falcons Arthur Blank said to the press, that on Monday night game before Atlanta’s embarrassing loss to the New Orleans Saints 34-14, he saw Petrino and also shook hands symbolizing his participation on the team till the end.
And the most impacting of this is that twenty four hours later, the Falcons including Blank knew that they were left by their head coach. Petrino signed up a contract with the College Football team: Razorbacks for less money than his five year deal with the Falcons.
This was of course shocking for the team, for the fans, the owner and also the National Football League. They are trying to find an answer to Petrino’s resignation and the only good answer is that he wasn’t comfortable dealing with pro athletes who “are not afraid to speak”… really suspicious, isn’t it?
At this point no matter what are the reasons of Petrino’s decision, what really concerns is the future of the team in their last passage to end this 2007 NFL season.
There are three games left for the Falcons and the person that will guide them is Coach Emmitt Thomas. Thomas is a secondary coach and all the hopes are on him from now and on. Something curious here is that Thomas is the first black head coach in the Falcons history.
I know that this is just another stage in the Falcons records or history; you can name it the way you want. But just one thing is for sure; the slap in the face they just receive from their “head coach” won’t be forgotten…
All the best to all the Atlanta Falcons players, we all know you can stand up and continue in this endless fight trail.
