And the winners of the Super Bowl, the New York Giants are working really hard to get the best team work for the next NFL season.
And this time the opportunity of negotiation was for punter Jeff Feagles who signed a two year contract with the Giants on Tuesday.
Why Jeff Feagles is subject of attention in the NFL, well Jeff became the oldest NFL player to play in a Super Bowl just one week ago. And this means a lot for him and for all his teammates who admitted that he still have the necessary energy to be out in the field.
Next month Feagles will turn 42, he has spent twenty years of his life as NFL player and this past season was the first time in his career that he went to a Super Bowl and won along with his teammates
During the 2007- NFL’s regular season, Feagles did a net average of 36 yards on 71 punts which is not bad and also landed 25 inside the opponent’s 20 yard line. In the Super Bowl he played really good averaging 39 yards on 4 punts and only one of them was returned for 15 yards.
Even though he is the oldest player to play in a Super Bowl, he has added another record to all the young NFL players out there with his way to play and the way he eliminates his opponents meaning that the age is nothing more than a simple number.
“Jeff is the best directional punter of all time,” Giants general manager Jerry Reese said. “This guy can eliminate the opponent’s punt returner. He is a pro’s pro.” This is a big reason why the younger ones feels challenged.
In his 20 years of career Feagles hasn’t missed a game; he has played in 320 regular season contests achieving an NFL record. The second in the list is Jim Marshall a player from the Minnesota Vikings with 282 games in 1960-79.
Another record during his long trajectory in the NFL is his leadership in punts with 1585, 65793 yards and a total of 508 punts inside the 20 yards.
Definitely Feagles life is one of kind, we hope the best for next season. This is something that he deserves and we know he will get it.
