I’ve said it before; in order to take a clear advantage at this 2008 NBA Playoffs, you must win road games, and that is what Detroit did yesterday at TD Banknorth Garden when they took on the Celtics and now the Pistons are heading to the motor city with a different mentality.
It’s rare that the Celtics get to lose when playing at Boston, in fact they lost only 6 times at the Garden during the regular season, and lost none at home during these playoffs, of course that was before their meeting yesterday with the Pistons, who took them down by 103-97.
Now, Boston have struggled with road games this post season, much different than the Pistons, who splitted the first 4 games for the quarterfinals between road and home wins with the the 76ers, and then took on a strike of 5 straight victories that included their first two wins against the Magic, whom they defeated 4-1 in their series and allowesd them to acquire an early ticket to the conference finals, and gave them a week of rest before their first game against Boston, something no other team had.
And so Detroit looks more powerful than the Celtics, but obviously Boston are the favorites with their outstanding record of the present season, so they know Detroit is a team to respect, and a team that is ready to play with rival fans booing them, and the real challenge for Boston now will be to come up with a victory over the Pistons at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
“We’ve got to find some way to win one on the road,” Kevin Garnett said, and Paul Pierce, who led the Celtics last night with 26 points also knows that their chances to make it to the finals are compromised: It’s definitely going to be a challenge for us,” he said.
