Certainly the Celtics made themselves respect at the Garden against their life time rival, the Lakers. Final score was 108-102 with Los Angeles shooting for only 42 points in the first half, and Boston taking a 20 point lead for most of the 3rd quarter and the begining of the 4th.
So yes, Kobe Bryant is the best player in the league, but not even him could save his team in one of the worst shows the Lakers have given this 2008 NBA season.
The Game got almost tied at the end of the game but the Celtics bench played better than ever, with a Leon Powe that was an essential factor for Boston’s victory, since he came up with a career playoff high 21 points and some in-your-face slam dunks that left everybody at the TD Banknorth Garden chanting euforically and raising “beat la” posters.
Now is when the Celtics are going to be truly tested since they are on their way to Los Angeles for 3 games in a row against the Lakers at the Staples Center, and if Kobe, who got a game-high 30 points on Sunday at game 2 of the series, gets the help he needs from team mates, Boston will have a hard task beating them at their house, even more with Lakers fans booing them those 3 games.
And I guess all doubts have been cleared out concerning Paul Pierce’s knee injury, as he played outstandingly at game 2 and led the Celts with 28 points and now he’s heading to his home town to play against the team he used to be fan of when growing up.
And sho why did the Celtics lost that 20 point advantage? Well most likely because they started to play deffensively, trying to keep that lead, and the Lakers got Vladimir Radmanovic on the court, whom is a 3-pointer specialist, and so with his help and Kobe’s outstanding play, Boston look in trouble, but with things at 102-104, Paul Pierce got fauled and shot for the 2 points that gave the Celts a 4 point advantage, then the Lakers lost possesion and Boston shot for the last 2 of the game.
Even though the Celtics are heading the series 2-0, nothing is being said and done at this 2008 NBA Finals, so let’s see what is going to happen this coming Tuesday when these two teams meet for game 3.
