The 600 home run club has only 6 members, with Ken Griffey Jr. as the newest member after being at 599 since May 31st.
In fact Ken Griffey Jr. is the only active player of the club, with Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa both being currently unsigned, mostly because of their recent involvement in the steroid scandal. Bonds got mentioned at the Mitchell Report and Sosa in a deposition by Federal Agent Jeff Novitzky related to the use of amphetamines; Sosa has also being questioned for using a doctored bat.
Griffey Jr. got his numbers without any dark marks on his reputation, which truly makes him stand above Bonds, and now he is just 9 home runs away from Sosa, in order to become the all-time 5th.
The 600 home run club has the following members:
Barry Bonds : 762 home runs
Hank Aaron : 755 home runs
Babe Ruth : 714 home runs
Willie Mays : 660 home runs
Rusty Baker is the current Reds manager, and he has managed the last 3 of the list, those being Barry Bonds with the Giants, Sammy Sosa with the Cubs and now Griffey Jr. “It’s awesome every time you see a milestone like that, it doesn’t take away from the others. It adds to it.” Baker said. “
