US Open: Woods vs. Mickelson

Tiger Woods is the best golfer in decades, probably one of the best in history, but hasn’t being friends with the US Open for the past five years, as he won his last title for this tournament in 2002.

The USGA always picks the most difficult courses in the nation for the competition, and this year is no exception as the US Open will be held at Torrey Pines, one of the toughest and most famous courses in the United States, that is even the main feature of golf video games.

It’s hard to say if Tiger Woods will be playing his best golf as it is a well known fact that he went into knee surgery and took a 2 month break from golf, and just before that he finished runner-up to Trevor Immelman at the Masters, so even though Woods is considered a god among golf fans, he is certainly not at his best and the most he has played when practicing is 9 holes, so the 18-hole Torrey Pines can be a true test for Tiger.

Woods currently holds 14 professional majors and is looking to get closer to the 18 titles that Jack Nicklaus achieved, and so to be so close to pass Nicklaus and become the best one in history, can be just what he needs in order to come up with a victory at the US Open.

Now world number 2 Phil Mickelson has an advantage over Woods, he is a San Diego native and has played at Torrey Pines many times, so critics are wondering if this is the time for Mickelson to win the US Open, as he has finished second four times now, we’ll know who’s the best for sure when the tourney ends on June 15.
